133rd birth anniversary of first President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad being observed

Today is the 133rd birth anniversary of India's first President Dr Rajendra Prasad. Dr Prasad was born in Siwan district of Bihar and was elected independent India's first President when the country became a Republic in 1950. <br/><br/><br/>Dr Prasad will always be remembered for his enormous contribution to the freedom movement and his role in making the Constitution. <br/>'<br/>President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Dr Rajendra Prasad on his birth anniversary. In his message, Mr Modi said, as a first President of India, his leadership and guidance was extremely valuable for the nation during the formative years. <br/><br/>He said, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Rajendra Prasad became an active part of India's freedom struggle and participated in grass root level movements such as non cooperation movement. He said, Dr Prasad also provided great leadership to the constituent assembly as its president. <br/>'<br/>On 30th of last month, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu had delivered, Dr. Rajendra Prasad memorial lecture 2017 organized by All India Radio in New Delhi. The topic of lecture this year was Transformation of India. Mr Naidu said, the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign has changed the mindset of society towards women and for the first time a state like Haryana which had skewed child sex ratio has witnessed significant improvement. <br/><br/><br/>Expressing concern over the increase in political violence in the country, Mr Naidu said, it should be stopped immediately.
