1300 troops arrive in NW-China to help survivors of floods, landslides

More than 1300 police and soldiers have arrived to help with relief efforts in a district of north-west China hit by huge mudslides over the week-end. 3,000 others are on their way to assist survivors of the floods and landslides have killed more than 120 people in Gansu province. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has visited the county, where 127 people are known to have died. Almost 1,300 other people are missing in the wake of Saturday's landslides.
