13 Taliban militants killed in air strikes in Afghanistan

In Afghanistan, at least 13 Taliban militants including their commander were killed as they came under air attack in northern province of Kunduz last night. A security official said that the air raids took place in Dasht-e-Archi district after intelligence reports indicated militants' activities. <br/><br/>A NATO statement said the militants, who had barricaded themselves in the buildings, exchanged fire with joint forces resulting in the killings. Taliban commander Hamza Khan was among those killed. Kunduz and Baghlan, considered peaceful provinces until early 2009, has been the scene of increasing Taliban-led militancy in the past one year. <br/><br/>Provincial governor of Kunduz Mohammad Omar said about 100 foreign fighters associated with Taliban and Al-Qaeda network have infiltrated Kunduz province to destabilize security. <br/> <br/>
