13 killed in Afghan violence

In Afghanistan, 13 civilians and 3 US soldiers were killed in latest incidents of violence making July the deadliest month for US forces since 2001. A statement issued by International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) today said six Afghan civilians were killed by insurgents' small-arms fire while building and repairing roads in the Ab Band district of Ghazni province yesterday. Three Afghan civilians were killed and one wounded in the same province when their vehicle struck an IED. Three more civilians were killed and two wounded when an improvised explosive devise IED detonated on the side of a road in the Kandahar district of Kandahar province. One more Afghan civilian was killed, and another one was injured in an IED explosion in the Tsamkani district of Paktiya province.Meanwhile, another ISAF statement today said the three died in two separate blasts in southern Afghanistan yesterday. That brings the U.S. death toll for the month to at least 63. June had earlier been the deadliest month for the U.S. with 60 deaths and for the overall NATO led force with 104 fatalities.
