122 drug addiction centres established across country

The Minister of Health and Family Welfare has established 122 drug addiction centres across the country. Replying questions in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister for Social Justice Mukul Wasnik said that centre is not directly setting up de-addiction centres. He added these centres are being set up by the NGOs in the respective states and the centre is only providing funds to run them. He clarified proposals for running and maintenance of these centres are processed as per the said guidelines and so far no proposal from any state has been received this year. He said last year 22.79 crore rupees were allocated to these centres by his Ministry. In response to a particular query he said Maharashtra has taken the full amount from the Ministry allocated for it last year.
