12000 seats to be added in medical colleges, says Azad

Medical colleges will have 12 thousand more seats in the next 3 years. This was disclosed by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Gulam Nabi Azad in Bangalore on Saturday. <br/> <br/>Inaugurating world’s biggest Cancer Hospital in the city, he said that there are philanthropists and entrepreneurs ready to build state of the art medical colleges in the country. But we have acute shortage of trained teaching faculty. Hence the Government will create necessary manpower in the medical profession and then the medical colleges can be built.<br/> <br/>The Minister also inaugurated Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Centre built over an area of five lakh square feet. Elaborating over the creation of manpower, he said, Government will start nine centres of excellence in the country to train Radiologists and Lab Assistants. <br/> <br/>This year 270 nursing colleges will also be started generating 20,000 additional nurses each year. He said nearly four lakh people die of cancer every year. <br/>
