The Tourism Ministry has launched a Clean India Campaign to sensitize everyone on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in public places particularly monuments and tourist destinations.
People are persuaded, educated and trained to keep these areas clean to attract visitors. The campaign's prime objective is to ensure an acceptable level of cleanliness and hygiene practices at tourism destinations.
The campaign is being sustained by involving private and public sector stake holders as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Giving this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi said so far about 120 monuments and destinations have been identified.
These include World Heritage sites in the country and monuments protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
