In Jammu and Kashmir, the historic 120 Mega Watt Sewa-II Power Station at Hatt Mashka in Basholi area of district Kathua was today dedicated to the Nation. The project was inaugurated by the Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.At the function, Shinde said that there has been tremendous development in the power sector and the country has reached generation capacity of 1.63 lakh Mega Watt. He said that 12.5 percent of power produced by this hydel project will be provided to Jammu and Kashmir State while the 1 percent share shall be dedicated for the local developmental projects in the area. The project has been completed in seven years by National Hydro Power Corporation at the cost of over 1000 crore rupees.Expressing Centre Government’s keenness in the process of development in Jammu and Kashmir Shinde said that to meet the requirement of power in the State, the Centre is going to set up 1000 Mega Watt National Thermal Power Project soon. Speaking about the prevailing condition in Kashmir valley, the Minister said that both the Centre and the State Governments are putting their sincere efforts for the restoration of peace in the State. He asked the separatists to come to the negotiating table for dialogue. The Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, Member of Parliament, Lal Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Power, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Khan were also present on the occasion.
