In Uttar Pradesh 12 nominations have been filed on 1st day for biennial elections to 36 seats of the State legislative council from the local bodies constituencies. Notification was issued on Monday for these elections. Polling is scheduled on 7th of next month while candidates can file their nominations till 21st of this month. Scrutiny will be on the next day.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party and main opposition Samajwadi Party have already announced their candidates for all the 36 seats. BJP has nominated nearly 12 candidates while Congress has announced only nine candidates. Elected members of the local bodies, Gram pradhans, MLAs and MPs are eligible to the vote in this election. The present tenure of incumbents in these 36 seats expires on 15th of next month.<br/><br/>Of the seats going to the polls, maximum 22 seats are occupied by the Samajwadi Party followed by BJP-6, RLD-2, Congress-1 and SJP-1. Four seats are vacant. The lone SJP member is BSP nominee in this election from Ballia- Gazipur constituency. <br/> <br/><br/><br/>
