In South Africa, twelve people have been killed in a fire at a centre for the mentally disabled and elderly near Johannesburg. South African news agency SAPA said 34 people were also injured in the blaze in the town of Springs, east of Johannesburg. It said the cause was not immediately known. Last year 18 people were killed when a fire swept through a retirement home near Johannesburg.
