Gunmen have ambushed a bus in the southern Philippines, wounding 12 people in a suspected extortion attempt. The regional military chief, Lieutenant-General Benjamin Dolorfino said the vehicle was attacked late on Saturday evening on its regular route to the city of Pagadian. He said the driver, who was one of 12 people wounded, was listed in serious condition at a nearby hospital in Ipil town. The military chief said the army dispatched a unit of infantry to seek at least two suspects who were armed with an assault rifle and a shotgun.
