The 11th summit of heads of state and government of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) began in Istanbul today. According to Turkish Anadolu news agency, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who handed over ECO's rotating presidency to his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul, said ECO has huge potential for collective work. In his address, Gul called on ECO member states to help improve the organization's goals as well as their economic cooperation. The Turkish leader also called for cooperation in fighting organized crime and drug trafficking.Turkey's President Abdullah Gul is hosting the summit attended by ten member and guest countries including Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbaeva, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon apart from leaders from Qatar, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
