11th phase of J&K Panchayat polls underway amid tight secuirty

In Jammu and Kashmir, the 11th phase of Panchayat elections in ten blocks of Jammu and Kashmir Divisions is going on smoothly amid tight security arrangements. The polling began at 8 a. m and was progressing in six blocks of Jammu Division and four blocks of Kashmir division. Over 59% polling was reported till 12.15 p.m in Bhalwal block of the Jammu district. AIR, Jammu Correspondent who visited the Bhalwal block of Jammu district reports that voters including women were seen standing in long queues right from the early morning to cast their votes. In Ramsoo block of Ramban district, over 45% polling was reported till noon. In Drabshalla block of Kishtwar district 51% electorate had cast their votes by noon. In Bafliaz and Surankote blocks of border district of Poonch polling was peaceful and so far 63% electorate had exercised their franchise. In Marmat block of Doda district Polling was going on smoothly and 64% electorate had exercised their franchise by-noon. Defying hot humid weather in Jammu Division, people have turned out in large number to exercise their franchise in the 11th Phase of Polling on Wednesday. So far polling in all the six blocks of Jammu Division is reported to be peaceful with no untoward incident having taken place anywhere. Meanwhile, J&K Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. B.R. Sharma on Wednesday issued notification for the 16th and last phase of Panchayat polls. In the 16th Phase, polling will be held on 18th June in Gurez and Tulail blocks of Bandipora district, Khaltsi and Suspol blocks of Leh district and Taisura, Drass and Shargole blocks of Kargil district.
