119 Assembly seats in AP go for polls tomorrow amidst massive security arrangements

In Andhra Pradesh, all arrangements are in place for tomorrow’s polling in 17 Lok Sabha and 119 Assembly Constituencies in Telangana region.

About 2 crore 82 lakh voters will vote at 30 thousand 518 polling stations set up in 10 districts of the region.

About two lakh fifty thousand personnel have been put on polling duty and over one lakh 40 thousand police forces including 162 companies of central and armed forces have been deployed to ensure free and fair polling.

Arrangements have been made for live-webcasting from 17 thousand polling stations located at difficult and sensitive areas.

Screens have been arranged at all important places including major Panchayats to maintain transparency of poll process. For the first time in its history, Andhra Pradesh is going of elections under the President’s rule.

Though there were occasions when President Rule imposed in the state, a care-taker government comprising elected public representatives was in place earlier.

The present simultaneous elections for both Lok Sabha and the Assembly gained further significance as two separate governments will be formed after elections, one for the emerging Telangana state which will be officially coming into being on June 2nd and another for the residual Andhra Pradesh.

Though the two governments will work for some time from Hyderabad for practical purpose, electors from the Telangana region will vote tomorrow not only to determine the political future of the candidates but also pave the way for the future of both the emerging states.

A total 265 candidates are in the contest for 17 Lok Sabha constituencies while 1669 candidates including those of major political parties are in the fray for 119 Assembly constituencies.
