In Karnataka, Police has arrested eleven suspected militants belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba and HUJI terrorist groups from Bangalore and Hubli. Karnataka Director General of Police Mr.L. Pachau informed that they were conspiring to target prominent politicians, Journalists and heads of some religion organisations in the state. The police have seized a pistol, seven rounds of ammunition and other incriminating material from them. A case has also been registered.
Bangalore City Police Commissioner Jyoti Prakash Mirji said that the accused worked under the guidance of handlers from Saudi Arabia. The investigation has also revealed that such modules are active in other states also. The police is also looking into possibilities of their involvement in the recent spate of rumours spread through MMS and SMS resulting in exodus of north East people from Bangalore.
The Deputy Chief Minister and minister for Home, R Ashoka revealed that among the arrested is a Doctor, a scientist and a few educated employees. They had returned to the state after undergoing training in a Gulf country.
