Eleven Somalis have appeared in a US court on charges of piracy after two separate attacks on American navy vessels. Five of the Somalis are accused of opening fire on a US navy frigate off the Seychelles after mistaking it for a merchant ship. Another six Somalis are accused of attacking a US navy assault landing craft in the Gulf of Aden. All have been charged with piracy and assault with a dangerous weapon.
