In Uttar Pradesh over 11 percent polling has been reported in the first two hours in 15 Lok Sabha seats where voting is taking place peacefully since 7 AM.
Maximum 14 percent polling is reported from Basti constituency while minimum 8 percent voters cast their votes in Shravasti seat till 9.00 AM.More than 2.6 crore electorate, including 1.19 crore female voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the this crucial phase to decide the electoral fate of 243 candidates.
Maximum number of 34 candidates in Amethi include Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi who is contesting for third consecutive term. He is challenged by BJP leader Smriti Irani and AAP leader Kumar Vishwas.
The fate of many other prominent leaders including BJP National Secretary Varun Gandhi, Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma, State Congress president Nirmal Khatri and cricketer-turned politician Mohammad Kaif will also be decided today.
Congress and BSP have fielded their candidates in all seats while BJP has left Pratapgarh seat to its ally Apna Dal and ruling Samajwadi Party has not fielded its nominee from Amethi, supporting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
