In Punjab, 11 people were killed and several fell ill after inhaling the poisonous gas at the Giaspura locality of Ludhiana district, this morning. All the victims belonged to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and had been staying in Ludhiana. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered and the Ludhiana Police has registered an FIR against unknown persons.<br />''The State government has announced a compensation of Rs two lakh each to the kin of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident. An amount of Rs 50,000 and free treatment would be given to the victims who are critically ill and are undergoing treatment.<br />''<br />''Taking stock of the situation in the area and Civil hospital, the State Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said that four of the persons admitted to the civil hospital are out of danger. He said that exemplary action would be taken against the preparators of this tragedy. Later, he also visited the affected area in Giaspura.<br />''<br />''In the air quality sensors used by the NDRF team, high levels of Hydrogen Sulphide gas have been detected and it is ascertained that this gas might have led to the incident. The team of MC Ludhiana is also working hard to ensure that there is no further chemical contamination.<br />
