11.46% turnout recorded in early hours of voting in MP

In Madhya Pradesh, peaceful polling is on in ten parliamentary constituencies of Bhind, Morena, Gwalior, Guna, Rajgarh, Bhopal, Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh and Khajuraho.

Talking to media in Bhopal, Chief Electoral Officer Jaideep Govind said that the 11.46 per cent turnout was recorded in these segments till 10.30 am. Maximum 20.72 per cent polling was recorded in Bhopal segment while Bhind recorded the minimum poll percentage of 2.33.

Poll boycott continues at two places of Damoh and Tikamgarh constituencies while at seven other places it was called off.

More than one crore 67 lakh voters will decide the political fate of in all 142 candidates including 54 independents in this phase.

Among prominent candidates are union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, state BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahalad Patel and Meenakshi Natrajan. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the polling.

160 companies of central para-military forces, Rapid Action Force and Special Armed Force and 36 thousand police and home guard jawans have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls.
