10th day of Muharram observed across India

Yom-e-Ashura or 10th day of Muharram was observed today across the country. It is observed to mark the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of prophet Mohammad.

In the national capital Delhi, Tazia processions were taken out in various parts of the city which culminated at Karbala this evening.

In Uttar Pradesh, Muharram was observed across the state with enthusiasm. Aashura is considered to be one of the most pious and blessed days of Allah in the Islamic calendar.

AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that innumerable Taziahs in the city were taken out amid tight security by individual households in the procession to be buried in different Karbala such as Kazmain, Thakurganj, Talkatora and Phoolkatora.

In Andhra Pradesh, thousands of devotees took part in the traditional Bibi Ka Alam procession in Hyderabad and mourned for Imam Hussain remembering his martyrdom on this day in Karbala.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner, Anurag Sharma, members of the royal family of Nizam and leaders of various parties have offered Dhatti to the Alam en-route.

Muharram processions have also been taken out at several places in other parts of the state to mark the occasion.
