Glowing tributes were paid to the security personnel, who laid down their lives while defending Parliament from a terrorist attack in 2001. Nine persons, including six security men, had lost their lives in the attack.
A special commemorative function was held in Parliament complex where Vice President Mohd Hamid Ansari led the nation in paying the tributes. Prime Minister Dr. Singh offered floral tributes to their portraits. He was joined by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and several of his Cabinet colleagues.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Senior BJP Leader L. K. Advani, leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitely were among those who offered tributes.

Terrorists belonging to the Jaish-e-Mohammed stormed into Parliament in 2001 when the two houses were in session. Security personnel bravely fought back and foiled their nefarious attempts and eliminated five Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists.
