<span style="color: #222222;">In Jammu & Kashmir, 1,065 candidates are in the fray for elections of Chairpersons for the Block Development Councils (BDCs) to be held on 24th of this month.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">According to Office of Chief Electoral Officer a total 1092 nominations were found eligible after the scrutiny and withdrawal, out of which 27 candidates including those from BJP were elected unopposed as Chairpersons. In Kashmir, the BJP will be contesting in 120 segments and will support 14 independents.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">There are 316 blocks in the State, out of which two are without elected Panchs or Sarpanchs and the four reserved for women without any woman candidate. Therefore elections shall be held in 310 blocks.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">AIR correspondent reports that necessary arrangements have been made for the smooth conduct of elections.The ballot boxes would be used during the elections of the BDCs as the election shall be held through secret ballot. The BDC election will be the last electoral exercise in the state before it is formally bifurcated into two union territories on the midnight of 31st October. </span><br />
