104 Tamil fishermen released by Sri Lanka likely to return home today

In Tamil Nadu, 104 Tamil fishermen released by Sri Lanka is likely to be handed over to Indian Coast Guard today. Tamil fishermen have been released by Sri Lankan courts as a goodwill gesture. <br/>Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalaithaa has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the release of six more Tamil fishermen lodged in Sri Lankan jail.<br/><br/>The fishermen hamlets of Nagapptinam, Rameswaram, Jagadapattinam are eagerly awaiting the homecoming of Tamil fishermen released from Lankan jail. The local fishermen are urging the government to ensure the release of 68 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalaithaa had pointed out in her letter to Prime Minister that these fishing boats and fishing gear will get damaged. The livelihood of Tamil fishermen will be badly affected if the boats are not returned to them. The apprehension of Tamil fishermen when they cross the international maritime boundary line is a continuous affair. The fishermen are released but their boats are detained by Lanka as a deterrent measure.
