102 Indian fishermen return home from Lankan jail

In Tamil Nadu, the 102 fishermen released from Sri Lankan jail returned home this evening. Sri Lankan Navy handed over the Tamil fishermen to Indian Coast Guard today at the international maritime boundary line. The fishermen were then brought to Mandapam coast Guard station and Karaikal private port. They were handed over to local fisheries authorities.

The fishermen were received by their family members and local fisheries authorities. The fishermen were taken to their hamlets after routine procedures. Tamil fishermen are worried that Sri Lanka has not released their 68 fishing boats. They urge the government to secure the release of fishing boats including fishing equipment detained by Sri Lanka. They also want a lasting solution to the problem of Sri Lankan Navy apprehending Tamil fishermen when they cross to Lankan waters for fishing.
