At least 100 people are feared dead in the avalanches that hit many houses in different areas of northwest Pakistan's Kohistan district. <br/><br/>The private TV, ARY News today said most victims were women and children and still many others were feared to be trapped under the snow. <br/><br/>The residents of the area said that so far 45 bodies had been recovered from the snow and rescue efforts are underway. The avalanches rolled over many houses in Kundian valley's town of Bagar Dara and other areas of Kohistan district of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) on Wednesday night burying a large number of local residents alive. <br/><br/>Heavy snowfall and rains have continued in Kohistan district in the past days, hindering the rescue efforts. Local people are engaged in the self help rescue operation, as rescue teams couldn't reach because of the blockade of the roads due to landslide. Local officials have requested authorities in NWFP to send helicopter and heavy machinery for rescue operation.
