100 buried in China landslide

In China, at least 100 people are feared to be buried after a landslide triggered by heavy rain in the south-western Guizhou province. Rescue work is underway in the affected village of Dazhai in the province. Southern China has been experiencing torrential rain, with flood-related disasters through out this month. According to state media, the government has ordered setting up of a rescue and relief centre to co-ordinate the emergency response . A total of 235 people lost their lives in the flood-related disasters so far. The local authorities said at least 100 people are missing and some 2.4 million have been displaced. More than 15,000 soldiers have been deployed to aid rescue operations. The disaster has led to power cuts, collapsed reservoirs and widespread damage to roads. Millions are without drinking water supplies.
