Mumbai and its suburbs today experienced heavy and persistent rain through the day. The rain took its toll in Mumbai’s neighbouring Thane district where ten workers were buried alive when the protection wall at a construction site collapsed suddenly. Two other seriously injured workers were rushed to a local hospital. Five fire engines were pressed into action in Kashimira area in Thane’s Mira Bhayander region, where the incident took place. Relief and rescue operation was launched immediately with the help of locals. Speaking to reporters, Sudhir Raut, acting commissioner of Mira Bhayander Corporation informed that till now no criminal case had been filed against the builder or developer. He added that any action will be possible only after the police finish inquiring into the case.Meanwhile, it was a tough day for Mumbaikars with rail, air and road transport badly hit due to the rains. Water logging was reported in many areas and as many as 13 incidents of tree falling were also reported. But the rains have now receded and things were getting back to normal. As for the next 24 hours, the weather bureau has forecast intermittent rain in some parts of Mumbai while heavy to very heavy rains would occur in some other parts and suburbs.
