The Planning Commission aims to accelerate the economic growth to ten percent in the next five year plan beginning next year. This will be about two percent higher then the current plan. The growth in this plan is expected to be around 8.1 percent. Briefing reporters after the first meeting for preparing approach document for the next plan, the Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahulawalia told reporters that the growth has not only inclusive but sustainable as well. He added this includes governance and implementation issues as well. He said in the wake of reports that money spent is not reaching the beneficiaries, the discussions in the first meeting centred on the steps required to improve the delivery system in the next plan. Mr. Ahulawalia earlier indicated that agriculture growth target of four percent could be retained in the next plan. AIR correspondent adds with the first meeting to prepare the approach document for the 12th Plan Period, the Planning Commission has kicked off the exercise to formulate the Plan. The meeting of the full Planning Commission to be chaired by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is likely to be held on 21st of this month.
