There is no respite from intense heatwave in Uttar Pradesh despite a one to two degree drop in maximum temperature since yesterday. Two people including a woman have succumbed to the heatwave in Gorakhpur during the past 24 hours. With this, the death toll has mounted to 10 during past fortnight. Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports that the disruption in power supply has badly affected the normal life in the state.AiR correspondent reports that the regular electric supply even during the night hours have become a challenge for the state power corporation as the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has warned UP Power Corporation not to withdraw electricity from the grid more than its allocation. Nearly 70% of state’s power requirement is presently being fulfilled by the Central Sector. The demand is increased to 11000 megawatts during the night. The power shortage has created acute crisis of drinking water in most of cities. The Central and Bundelkhand regions are sweltering with heat where the temperature is ranging between 43 to 45 degrees Celsius. The met office has predicted no change in weather during next 48 hours.
