10 killed by militants in Assam; State govt to seek more central para forces

In Assam, the death toll has gone up to ten in the violence in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts. Assam Home Commissioner G D Tripathi said that banned outfit, National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Sangbijit group killed seven persons in Kokrajhar and three in Baksa district last night. Four injured persons were undergoing treatment in hospitals. Militants killed six civilians at Balapara in Kokrajhar district on the spot while another injured person succumbed to injuries later.

Mr Tripathi said that steps have been taken to contain the situation. Six companies of Quick Response Teams have been deployed at Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Baksa. Requisition has been given to seek army deployment. He said that the Assam government will write to the Centre, seeking additional companies of paramilitary forces. Several organisations have condemned the incidents. Senior police officials rushed to Kokrajhar and Baksa to take stock of the situation.
