In Andhra Pradesh, 10 persons including five policemen were injured and over a dozen vehicles damaged when unruly mobs pelted stones at people and police in fresh incidents in Hyderabad yesterday.
Police had to resort to lathicharge and fired tear gas shells in nine different areas of the old city to control the mobs. Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said, the situation is still tense but under control.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy has appealed to the people of all communities to maintain peace and calm. According to police, the trouble broke out when youths in groups began confronting the police following the afternoon prayers yesterday.
The unruly mobs pelted stones and torched few vehicles and damaged several others. The police lobbed teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge at several areas as the mobs began damaging properties and tried to attack local trains and city buses.
Additional security forces including Rapid Action Force have been deployed at all sensitive areas in the old city to maintain peace. Pickets have been set up and heavy patrolling is underway.
