10 days of Mysore Dushera festivities concludes today

The ten days of Mysore Dushera festivities concludes on Vijayadashami today. This is the day when the traditional Dasara procession, locally known as Jumboo Savari is held on the streets of Mysore city. The main attraction of this procession is the Goddess Chamundeshwari idol carried by elephant Arjuna in the 750 kg golden howdah. According to the legend, Vijayadashmi denotes the victory of truth over evil and was the day when Goddess Chamundeshwari killed the demon Mahishasura. Mahishasura is the demon from whose name, Mysore has been derived.
