In Uttar Pradesh, all 10 candidates have been declared elected unopposed for biennial elections for Rajya Sabha from the state. Returning officer and Principle Secretary of State Assembly Pradeep Dubey told AIR Lucknow correspondent that they have been declared elected on Thursday after the expiry of deadline for withdrawal of nominations.Actor turn politician Jaya Bachchan, Kironmoy Nanda, Darshan Singh Yadav, Naresh Agarwal, Brij Bhushan Tiwari and Munawwar Saleem have been elected as Samajwadi Party nominees. Outgoing Chief Minister Mayawati and outgoing Rajya Sabha MP Munkaad Ali were elected as BSP nominees. BJP leader Vinay Katiyar and Congress leader Rashid Masood have also been elected for upper house of Parliament.At present, five of the 10 Rajya Sabha seats which are falling vacant are held by the outgoing ruling party Bahujan Samaj Party, while two each are held by Samajwadi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party and one by the Rashtriya Lok Dal. Of them Kalraj Mishra has been elected to the state assembly in just concluded elections while Samajwadi Party has re-nominated Naresh Agarwal and BJP has fielded Vinay Katiyar for Upper House elections. The Samajwadi Party has not re-nominated for elections it’s both outgoing members of the house.
