Andhra Pradesh Government has made one-year Government service compulsory for doctors after completion of Post Graduation courses. Announcing the policy decision at a press conference in Hyderabad today, state Medical Education Minister P. Sudarshan Reddy said the decision has been taken in view the dire need for specialist doctors especially in rural and semi-urban areas of the state. Stating that it would come into affect for Post Graduation Diploma and Post Graduation Degree from the present admission year, the Minister said specialist doctors would be available for service from the year 2012. The Clinical specialists would be posted in District and Taluk hospitals where as the non-clinical doctors would be posted in Teaching hospitals in the state. Stating that they would be paid Rs 20-25 thousand monthly honorarium, the minister said a penalty of Rs 15-20 lakh would be collected if any doctor could not complete one year compulsory service. A GO to this affect has been issued today.<br/>
