1 teenager girl dies, 83 gets sick after consuming contaminated potable water

A teenager girl died and 83 persons, majority of them children, have taken ill after consuming contaminated potable water in Shamshabad village of Noormehal in Jalandhar Distt., today. <br/><br/>The number of affected people is increasing. The district administration has swung into action and teams of district health department have been pressed into service. The ADC GS Khaira, along with SDM concerned has rushed to the spot and holding meetings with the local health officers. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, 45 of the total 83 admitted in a hospital have been sent home after their health stabilizes. The reamaning are admitted in Civil Hospitals of Jalandhar, Noormehal and Nakodar. <br/><br/>A rupees ten thousand have been given by the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner from Red Cross fund for the cremation of the girl belonging to a poor family.<br/><br/>The health officials have collected water samples from the locality and directed the villagers not to use water of public health pipe lines. Taking precautionary measures chlorine tablets have been distributed in the affected area.
