In Assam, one person has been killed and thirty others injured in renewed violence at Barpetha road. The incident took place in Barpetha district. Army staged a flag march and Indefinate curfew has been imposed. Curfew has also been clamped in Howli area of the district and Nowgaon in Ampagan apart from Tejpur in Sonitpur district. All Assam Minority Students Union, AAMSU and other organizations had given a call for a 12-hour bandh demanding a halt to the ongoing violence in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts. Police arrested 13 bandh supporters at Tezpur.
The IGP said that additional security forces have been deployed at the violence marred areas. AIR correspondent reports that indefinate curfew also continues in Chirang district.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today requested all political parties and civil society organizations to maintain peace and not to make provocative statements. Mr.Gogoi said that all culprits involved in the violence will be punished. The Chief Minister also asked all political parties and outfits to refrain from calling bandhs. Meanwhile, the all party delegation today visited Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district and met people in relief camps. So far around 2 lakh 50 thousand people have returned home from relief camps.
